The purpose of an I-9 form is to verify that an employee is eligible to work in the United States. In order to be in compliance with the I-9, companies must follow the specific rules that are listed below.
- The I-9 form must be completed within the employee's first three days of work.
- The I-9 must be completed fully and properly or the employer may be fined.
- The employee must show original documentation proving eligibility and identity for the I-9 checks to be completed.
